A Greene County Medical Center staff member was recently announced as the first-ever recipient of a new award.

Jessica Steinberg is the director of nursing at the medical center and was recognized with the Des Moines UnityPoint Health Rural Healthcare Nursing Leadership Award. The award was nominated-driven and Chief Nursing Officer Susan Moore nominated Steinberg for the award and in her letter, Moore noted Steinberg’s outstanding leadership gained the respect of her peers and coworkers and was instrumental in creating effective changes during the pandemic.

Steinberg found ways to recruit new staff, implemented a mentoring program for registered nurses, while also expanding the pain clinic and added urology to both the skilled and extended care programs at the medical center. CEO Chad Butterfield noted how successful the pain clinic has been when he gave a report to the Greene County Development Corporation Board recently.

“Pain Clinic volume continues to be strong to the point to where we are now adding a third day every month of services. So we started at one, went to two, and now we’re up to three (days).”

Steinberg started with the medical center in 2013 and became the director of nursing in 2021.
