Josephine Gates, age 86 of Perry, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care in Perry. Burial will be in the Violet Hill in Perry. Memorials will be given to EveryStep Hospice and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Josephine Phyllis Gates was born on November 16, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, IA to William J. and Betty L. (Frava) Cisler. She graduated from Wilson High School Cedar in Rapids, IA. She was united in marriage to James Daniel Gates at Cedar Rapids, IA on July 1, 1959. She worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA, and Santa Monica Hospital in Santa Monica, CA, and a nurse’s aide at New Haven Nursing Home in Des Moines, IA.

She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Perry. She enjoyed collecting Angels, and flower gardening.

In death she rejoins her parents William and Betty Cisler, sisters Jo Ann Uswick, and Judy Brown and brother Bill Cisler Jr.

Left to cherish Josephine’s memory are her husband James Gates, children, Nancy M. Gates, Des Moines, IA, Sandra S. (Robert) Mason, Osceola, IA and Betty Jo Gates, Des Moines, IA, grandchildren, Christina Gates, Bobby J. Mason, and Matt D. Mason, and great grandchildren, Bryce Mason, and Pierce Mason.
