A reminder that tomorrow will be the main fundraiser for one entity in Greene County.

Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity is hosting the Nativity Festival at the First United Methodist Church. Executive Director Ron Christensen says the doors will open at 3pm for people to see the nativity scenes that community members have on display. Then there will be a community concert with several groups and organizations performing Christmas music at 4pm. A soup supper will be served at 5pm, followed by the popular pie auction at 5:30pm.

Christensen says the money raised from this event will go toward continuing to do Helping Hands projects where volunteers make exterior repairs or additions to owner-occupied homes. He talks about some of the projects that were recently done in the county.

“We’re able to put in a handicap-accessible ramp for a family so that they could stay in their home rather than having to move out into a more accessible living arrangement. We also we’re able to renovate a garage and paint it, just fix it up for some folks.”

Christensen is hoping that by opening the Nativity Festival back to full in person since the pandemic will drive more people to support the community and their organization.
