2020 Greene County High School graduate Carter Morton of Jefferson is the leader after the first day of the two day ISU Holiday Invitational heptathlon inside the Lied Center in Ames. The third year U. of Northern Iowa athlete and his teammates are opening the indoor track & field season at Iowa State, and it’s “so far, so good” for Morton, who set personal bests in three of four events on Friday. He won the high jump at 6′ 10-3/4″ and the long jump at 23′ 5-1/4″. Morton was third in the shot put at 38′ 5″ and third in the 60 meter dash in 7.11 seconds.
The 7 event heptathlon wraps up today with the 60 meter hurdles, the pole vault, and 1,000 meter run. Morton has 3,179 points and a 196 point lead.
