PCM made the long trip to Jefferson on Thursday night for Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girl/boy high school basketball. The Mustangs won the girls’ game 40-17 and then took the boys’ contest by a 47-42 final. The games were heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Originally scheduled for tonight, they were moved up a night due to difficulty in finding game officials.

Both Greene County teams suffered injuries on the court with Ashlynn Hinners hitting the back of her head on the court and Emma Hoyle suffering what appeared to be a lower leg injury for the girls. Nathan Behne had a leg injury of some type in the boys’ game. All three left after being injured and did not return to the court.

It took more nearly six minutes of playing time for the Rams to get their first points in the girls’ game and no Greene County player had more than four points. Addison Steenhoek had 11 points and Tori Lindsey added 10 for PCM, now 4-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Rams are 0-5, 0-3. This was the closest final margin the Rams have had this season.

Greene County had a pair of six point leads in the first quarter of the boys’ game, then fell behind by as many as 12 points at the end of the third quarter. The Rams climbed to within one point, but could not regain the lead. Gavin Van Gorp had 18 points for the Mustangs with 12 each from August Stock and Jacob Wendt. The Rams had 14 points from Gabe Ebersole and 12 by Richard Daugherty. Senior starter Jesse Miller, and reserves Brayden Roberts and Trey Schilling did not play for the Rams as the team has fought illness all week.

Next up for Greene County is a Tuesday, Dec. 13 road trip to State Center to face the West Marshall girls and boys.
