Tuesday the Guthrie County Supervisors brought forth nominations to add to the Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council.

As stated in the resolution that was adopted to make EMS an essential service in Guthrie County, there would be 14 seats on the Council, and the Council would help provide guidance, research and direction for the Board of Supervisors. There are eight spots that have been nominated for the Council so far, including the two spots occupied by County Supervisors and one of the four EMS departments in the county.

Panora EMS Director Levi Johnson says his department was waiting for this part of the nominations to be finished before they made a decision on who they would have to represent them. He adds that he likes the variety that was included for the Council.

“It’s nice to have department heads from some of the bigger departments such as the EMA (Emergency Management Agency) and the (Guthrie County) Public Health, as well as having people from the community on this board. So that way there’s opinions, and inputs, and ideas from everybody who’s going to be involved, whether it’s who’s in charge or who is essentially going to be paying for this service if it passes. So it’s good to have all these different people involved.”

The Supervisors will be approaching the other entities to fill the remaining seats, and presenting these nominations, as well as getting representatives for the empty seats. The remaining seats to be filled are for three of the four EMS departments, a designee from the EMA, a designee from Guthrie County Public Health, and a designee from the Guthrie County Hospital Board.
