A winter storm system is expected to hit a large portion of northern Iowa but also affect central Iowa tomorrow and last into Friday.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Cory Martin says that northern Iowa is expected to have snow during the day tomorrow but once the temperatures dip down the chances of precipitation will likely hit central Iowa as well.
“Otherwise for snowfall totals in Northern Iowa, we’re looking up to four inches of snow up there. When you get into central Iowa, much more uncertain again, just because of the possible transition. Rain to snow, but would definitely probably be seeing much more rain than we will (see) snow or in our area.”
Martin expects the rain that will be combined with below freezing temperatures at night to cause a problem with transportation tomorrow.
“Especially (when) we get into later in the day on Thursday, Thursday night, Friday morning. Just make sure to check ahead on the current weather conditions, current road conditions and plan to give yourself extra time if needed.”
Martin notes to monitor the weather conditions using the National Weather Service before planning on traveling tomorrow night or Friday morning.
