An organization in Jefferson is looking to help another non-profit group during the holiday season.
Tower View Team Chair with Jefferson Matters: A Main Street and Chamber Community Deb McGinn says they are hosting a silent auction for a painting that was done by local artist Dana Harrison, who painted the roof top art on top of the Peony Chinese Restaurant. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio the painting is entitled “Christ” that was unveiled from the special event Ekphrasis that was held last month. McGinn points out Harrison created the artwork from a poem that was done by Kenny Monthei.
“Dana’s work is stunning and I’m sure there’s someone out here that would enjoy having a piece of original artwork like this in their home or maybe to give as a special Christmas gift to someone. So we thought, ‘This is the time to do it.’ We’re just trying to put the word ‘Humanity’ back into that phrase: ‘Arts and Humanities’ which is what TVT is all about.”
Bids will be accepted at the Welcome Center through December 15th. McGinn says proceeds from their fundraiser will benefit the Greene County Homeless Coalition. She points out they will also accept additional donations if anyone who gives at least $25 can receive an 8.5-by-11 inch color print of the painting.
