Greene County and Panorama played a girl/boy basketball non-conference make up doubleheader last night in Panora. Greene County is back on the court at the high school in Jefferson tonight vs. South Hamilton (Jewell) in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play.
Senior 6′ 6″ forward Jesse Miller, the leading scorer for the Rams through the first two games, missed Monday’s action due to illness and the Rams fell 70-66 to the Panthers despite a career high 36 points from senior Richard Daugherty. Both teams are now 1-2 on the season. The Rams led 31-29 at the half and the Panthers were up 52-51 at the end of the third quarter. A scoring drought of 3:03 to start the final quarter by the Rams proved costly as the Panthers eventually led by as many as seven points, the largest margin of the game for either team. Panorama’s Maddux Hammerstrom had 18 of his 21 points in the second half and AJ Draper came off the Panthers’ bench to score 17.
Panorama dominated the girls’ game and improved to 3-0 with a 69-23 victory while the Rams fell to 0-3. Panorama led 45-12 at intermission. Twelve Panthers scored points led by Mia Waddle with 17 and Jaidyn Sellers 13. Junior Grace Hardaway banked in a pair of three-point baskets in, one in the first quarter and one in the second for six points. Senior Emma Hoyle also scored six points.
