For the second straight game, the Perry boys basketball team rallied from a double digit fourth quarter deficit and defeated Ogden 56-54 in non conference action Monday night at the Sports Pavilion. Perry connected on 19-22 free throws in the game including an impressive 15-18 in the second half. The Perry offense struggled for much of the night against the very aggressive 1-3-1 zone from Ogden. Perry committed over 10 turnovers in the first half but cleaned things up in the second half. Ogden continued to apply heavy pressure with their zone in the second half but committed 10 fouls in the first seven minutes of the third quarter. Perry had five straight possessions where they made two free throws to cut into the large Ogden lead.
Zander Mahler led the Jays with 15 points including 8-8 from the foul line. Owen Myers added 14 points including a key 3-pointer while Drave Levan added 12 points and had the key rebound with 15 seconds to go following an Ogden miss. Kaelan Davis connected on a pair of three pointers.
Jack Christensen led Ogden with 18 points and 11 steals.
Perry improves to 1-1 while Ogden falls to 1-2.
Perry will travel to State Center tonight for a game with West Marshall.
Friday Night Recap South Hamilton 75 Perry 65 Overtime
Perry erased a 15 point second half deficit to send the game to overtime Friday night against South Hamilton in the Heart of Iowa conference opener. Owen Myers was incredible on both ends of the court for Perry scoring a career high 26 points while grabbing 10 rebounds and adding 4 steals. Perry had a chance to win the game in regulation but a desperation three point shot fell short sending the game into the extra session. After Geren Kenney scored the initial basket in overtime, South Hamilton went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for good and hang on to the road victory.
