With the possibility of seeing snowfall in Greene County which could cause roads to become slick, law enforcement is reminding motorists to drive defensively.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio to never use a vehicle’s cruise control when driving in winter conditions and you may possibly have to drive at a slower speed so the vehicle doesn’t become out of control. If your vehicle begins to skid on the road due to snowy or icy conditions, Williams advises to turn into the skid.
“When you turn away from the skid it actually speeds up the slide. So probably, actually make you do a 360(-degree spin). And when you’re turning into the skid it actually gives your tires, the front end, the grip to help correct the skid.”
He suggests easing into the skid and trying not to apply the brakes or accelerator but to give your vehicle a chance to correct itself to avoid going into the ditch or causing a crash.
