The Perry School District is making safety and security a top priority throughout every building.
Superintendent Clark Wicks says that their goal by the end of the school year is to make every faculty member Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate or ALICE trained. Wicks points out that ALICE is an active shooter response training tactic that looks to save lives, mitigate risk and build confidence within the district. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio they currently have two associate principals that are certified in ALICE and will be training every staff member in every building.
“This year with the ALICE training, which is connected directly to what to do if an intruder comes into your building. So I think with the combination of the vulnerability assessment and then having all of our staff members trained and aware of our ALICE training or skills, we are going to be in great shape. And that’s what the goal is.”
He notes that within the safety assessment it looks at the vulnerabilities of each building and tries to secure those areas in case an intruder tries to enter.
