The Guthrie Center School Board met in regular session Monday.
The Board started with the annual meeting at 7pm, where they approved the October Board meeting minutes and the treasurer’s annual statement of books, before moving on to the organizational meeting where they elected Matt Van Meter as Board president and Tim Benson as Board vice president, and appointed Joni Rees as secretary and treasurer. They also appointed a Title IX/Equality Coordinator, and chose to keep the Roberts Rules of Order as their rules and procedures for conducting meetings. The Board finished the organizational meeting by keeping the regular date, place and time for meetings that they currently have, and approved a resolution to name official publications, and a resolution to appoint legal counsel.
Once the organizational meeting was over, the Board started the regular meeting, where they heard reports from the principals, and superintendent, gave their own report, and heard the financial report. The Board approved general/management fund claims, Secure an Advanced Vision for Education fund claims, activity and nutrition claims, open enrollment, resignations and gifts, grants and bequests.
The Board also heard reports on natural gas, electricity, fuel and copiers, and approved a contract recommendation for Amanda Beidler. Board members then discussed the Iowa Association of School Boards Convention, and upcoming dates when the district will either have an early out, or be out of session for the holidays.
Superintendent Josh Rasmussen had some positive comments about the IASB Convention.
“Yeah, just a good opportunity to learn from others around the state. Number one, they’ve been doing it a long time, so they’re sharing best practices and just a great opportunity for myself and board members, most of all, to learn from those that just have a lot of knowledge to share. And, you know, also hearing a lot of good speakers. So learning from them about communication and teamwork, and really a lot of good information there.”
To finish the meeting, the Board approved the 2022-23 depository institutions and limits, a resolution authorizing payments, Limited English Proficient excess costs application, School Budget Review Committee for increased enrollment and open enrollment out, the 2022-23 Return to Learn plan and the Early Retirement Incentive.
