Recently, the Panora Police Department received a donation from Casey’s General Store to help fund their Community Security Camera Project.

Panora Police Chief Matt Reising says that the project got started in 2016, and is something that the department continues to maintain and update. He says to kickstart the project, the department applied for a grant through the Guthrie County Community Foundation, and were able to get a few cameras and a server.

Since then, they’ve added six more cameras, and are looking to add more. The donation from Casey’s will add one more, and Reising already knows where he’d like to put it.

“I just ordered it this week. Actually purchased a camera that will go north of the four way, just about a block, which will greatly help us in investigating, I mean everything.”

Reising mentions that the police department uses the cameras to help keep the community safe, and they’ve been indispensable so far. He says they were used to solve a theft from a fireworks stand last summer, and have helped in the investigation of two stalking cases as well.
