A special program that happens tomorrow in Jefferson shines a spotlight on art.
The 2nd Annual Ekphrasis will bring together ten Greene County artists who have interpreted ten poems from Greene County individuals into visual artwork. Jefferson Matters Director Matt Wetrich talks about the experience of being one of those artists.
“I participated last year as an artist, I did a painting and had a poem done about it, and now I’m participating this year in the reverse, doing a photography piece based on a poem. And it feels a lot tricker to do it the other way around.”
Additionally, Iowa Poet Laureate Debra Marquart will also be there to read some of her poems and perform some of her songs. She earned her masters degree in creative writing from Iowa State University and following that was a visiting writer with Drake University before returning to ISU as a faculty member, where she has been since 1995. She has six published books of poems and essays, and published a memoir in 2007 “The Horizontal World: Growing Up Wild in the Middle of Nowhere.”
The event starts at 2pm tomorrow at History Boy Theatre Company and it is free and open to the public.
