Kale Petersen talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about his decision to choose the University of Iowa to continue his academic and wrestling career. The Greene County High School senior announced last week he’ll become a Hawkeye after high school. He’s believed to be the first from the Jefferson-based program to be recruited as a U. of Iowa wrestler.
Petersen told Raccoon Valley Radio the Brands brothers were a big factor in what he said was a very difficult decision. It came down to Iowa and Iowa State after several Division I programs recruited him. “I’ve known Tom and Terry ever since I was very young and have admired how they wrestled and how they coach.” The Hawkeyes are a perennial power in wrestling and are currently rated number two in the country.
Petersen will be trying to become a three-time Iowa high school State Champion. He won his firs title in 2021 in Class 1A at West Fork (Sheffield) and title number two came for Greene County last February in Class 2A.
Kale Petersen can be heard on KG98 on Monday’s PM Sports Magazine at 6 o’clock.
