McKinley Robbins on signing day with Oregon State

Greene County High School senior McKinley Robbins talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about his college choice for both academics and continuing his wrestling career. He signed a Division I National Letter of Intent to attend Oregon State University in Corvallis.

With aspirations of becoming a mechanical engineer, Robbins said Oregon State has just what he was looking for academically, and in a wrestling program as well. “They went from 48th in the NCAA Tournament in 2021 to number 12 last year, so that really impressed me. I like what Coach (Chris) Pendleton and his staff have done in just two years.” He added it’s big hunting and fishing country, and that appeals to him as well, but added, if he has time to hunt and fish.

Robbins is the only three-time Iowa State Wrestling Tournament finalist in the more than 55 years in the Jefferson-based program. He was a State runner-up in 2020 and ’22, and a State Champion in ’21. He has a 116-6 varsity career record and so far has the highest career winning percentage in program history. All six of his high school losses are to others who have won State titles, and he also has victories over others who have been State Champions.

Greene County starts the season at home in Jefferson on Nov. 29 vs. Van Meter, Ogden, and PCM (Monroe).
