Greene County senior wrestler Kale Petersen verified Tuesday afternoon with Raccoon Valley Radio that he will be attending the University of Iowa next year to continue his academic and wrestling career. He joins Ram teammate McKinley Robbins as Division I wrestling recruits. Robbins signed a National Letter of Intent last Thursday to wrestle at Oregon State University. Both are members of Sebolt Wrestling Academy in Jefferson.
Petersen will be trying to become a three-time Iowa High School State Champion with titles already to his name at West Fork (Sheffield) in 2021 in Class 1A and with Greene County in 2022 in 2A. He’s expected to wrestle at 126 lbs. this season for the Rams and could project in college at 133 lbs. Petersen notified Raccoon Valley Radio on Monday his choices were down to Iowa and Iowa State, and he picked the Hawkeyes. Having someone from a Jefferson-based wrestling program in the Iowa wrestling room is a rarity, but Sebolt wrestlers have made the trek to Iowa City with regularity in recent seasons.
Coach Zach Beekman’s Rams open the season at home in Jefferson on November 29 with PCM (Monroe), Ogden, and Van Meter.
