Paton-Churdan played a girls’ basketball Achieve Scrimmage at Saydel High School in Des Moines on Friday night. While it doesn’t count on the season record, score was kept, officials were used, as were game-like conditions including the use of the 35-second shot clock, something that’s new this season to Iowa high school basketball.

The Rockets won 52-32 behind 30 points from freshman Becca Anderson. Senior Emma Stream added 13 points. Head coach Tom Kennedy told Raccoon Valley Radio although it’s not officially going into the win column, he thought it was a good experience and overall, the Rockets played well. “This is something we can hopefully build on as the season is about to begin.” The teams had just four practices prior to the Friday event.

Achieve Scrimmages are earned by teams doing service projects, qualifying them for the Scrimmage.

The P-C girls and boys open the season on Nov. 29 in Dunlap vs. Boyer Valley.
