Pheasant season began last weekend and so far hunters are happy with what they are seeing.

The Department of Natural Resources Office for Dallas County Dustin Eighmy says that they saw a great opener for pheasant season filling parking lots and field access lanes. Eighmy explains he is pleased with the number of pheasants hunters have harvested so far. He expects the number of pheasants to be harvested to increase once the standing corn and warm weather are gone.

“Farmers get the rest of the harvest out. That’s just going to push those birds to the habitat even more. And, you know, going into late November here, December, if we can get the cooler temperatures, it’s going to be great. But so far, we’ve seen great numbers. Hunters are happy, We’re seeing bag limits. And so everyone’s kind of excited for the rest of the season with this bird bird numbers.”

The season will run till January 10th, 2023 with shooting hours from 8 to 4:30pm and the bag limit is three roosters and the position limit can be 12. Eighmy encourages hunters to wear a hat or vest that has solid blaze orange on it.
