The Paton-Churdan School District is asking for community members to support a worthy cause.

Principal Annie Smith says ahead of the high school girls basketball team taking on Saydel in an exhibition game, they are participating in the ACHIEVE Scrimmage. Smith tells Raccoon Valley Radio the formerly known as the Iowa Pride Challenge, it’s where high schools can schedule an additional game while also taking part in a community service project. Both school districts are asking for newly purchased children’s books to be donated this week that will be delivered to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines.

Smith explains P-C has never done this kind of a program where they pair up with another school and she describes how this came together.

“The Saydel (head girls basketball) coach this year is a friend and so he kind of reached out and said, ‘Hey would you be willing to’ and of course we jumped on the chance because it’s just great all the way around. So we’re excited to have it be something that we do this year but we hope that it’s something that we can continue in the future as well.”

Smith points out new books can be dropped off at the school building in Churdan and as part of the game admission price on Friday at 6pm at Saydel
