Today we introduce the Republican candidate that is running for Iowa House District 47.

Carter Nordman finished his first term in the Iowa House this past legislative session. He was the House Vice Chair of the ways and means committee, while also serving on state government, commerce and local government House committees. He recently graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management. He is currently studying to become a financial advisor.

Nordman supports parent’s rights when it comes to their child’s education and he also supported Governor Kim Reynolds bill that would take $5,000 of the state’s allocated $7,000 per pupil funding to about 10,000 public school students from low income families to choose what educational route they want their child to go, while that school district the student left would keep the other $2,000 in state funding. He also supports and wants to fully fund public education.

Nordman is also pro-life and he explains his stance on abortion.

“I think it’s important when we have this discussion that we recognize that we’re talking about two humans here: we’re talking about the mother and we’re talking about a baby. I support common sense legislation that will protect the unborn but also protect the mother. I also support exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother.”

If re-elected to the Iowa House, Nordman also wants to lower property taxes for Iowans. He talks about why he is running for re-election to the Iowa House.

“I’m a ninth generation Iowan who wants to continue to move Iowa in the right direction to ensure our state is the best place to live, work and raise a family. I’m so proud of the work that we’ve accomplished in the legislature over the past two years. We’ve invested over $100 million in broadband connectivity, we cut taxes, we’re making childcare affordability and access a priority, we protected girls sports, we stood up for law enforcement, we’re giving parents a voice in their child’s education, we’re expanding access to biofuels. But there is so much more work to be done.”

The Democrat challenger is Gary Overla. Iowa House District 47 includes all of Greene and Guthrie counties, and the northwest portion of Dallas County.
