Pheasant hunting season is currently underway in Iowa and one Greene County official says with the increase in pheasants, he expects the season to go well.

Greene County Conservation Director Tanner Scheuermann tells Raccoon Valley Radio that pheasant hunting season opened on October 29th and there are several public hunting areas across the county.

“Some of our areas that people like to hit, (includes) Pounds Pits is one of them, kind of around the pits there, there some good (pheasant locations), you might even find a duck or two in there. Bristol Wildlife Area, that’s one of our bigger prairie areas that’d be great habitat for pheasant, I know we get a lot of hunters out in that area as well. Dunbar Slough, another great area not just for water fowl but for pheasant hunting as well. Goose Lake and also Snake Creek Marsh in the eastern part of the county.”

According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, pheasant season runs until January 10th.
