Pheasant season is in full swing, and deer season will be coming up at the beginning of December. With many rural areas in the county, there’s plenty of public ground for hunters to traverse. Guthrie County Conservation Director Brad Halterman says that Guthrie County is lucky to have so much public ground.

“We’re extremely blessed here in Guthrie County to have a lot of public areas that provide that recreational resource for a lot of different activities.”

For those looking to get more involved with the pheasant season, Halterman says that Bays Branch and the Montieth Wildlife Area are great areas to start the season. He also mentions that in the later part of the season, Lakin Slough and McCord Pond are some good spots as well, even though they have a lot of marshland.

For deer hunters, Halterman recommends the Springbrook, Elk Grove, Lenon Mill, Marlowe Ray and Bennie Hall Wildlife areas, which are mainly timbered areas
