The Perry City Council applied for a grant in hopes to restore a building for low income housing.
Mayor John Andorf says that they put in an application for the Community Development Block Grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority for Upper Story Housing Conversion. Andorf explains this grant would provide $536,000 to convert the building at 1306 2nd Street into an apartment complex. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio it is a great opportunity for Perry to have more housing opportunities.
“ It’s a great program for Perry. As you are aware, we’ve had some great downtown development, including housing downtown. Perry is in need of additional housing for all practical purposes. We currently have zero vacancies in our rentals in the community of Perry, so any further downtown development in housing is also appreciated and it also helps to revitalize and renew downtown Perry, something we’ve also worked on for many years.
Andorf states that the complex would be able to hold three one bed apartments and the residents would have to earn 80 percent or less than the median income in Perry.
