All communities in Greene County are having their respective Beggars Nights in the next couple of days.
There is one tonight with Scranton’s Beggars Night from 5-7:30pm. Two more communities will have their Beggars Night tomorrow with Grand Junction, along with a Trunk or Treat on Main Street all from 5:30-7pm. In Rippey, there will also be a Trunk or Treat from 5-7pm, along with a free will donation meal at 6pm in the community room with old-fashioned kid games, with proceeds going to next year’s Rippey Daze fireworks display.
Then on Halloween Jefferson and Churdan will have their Beggars Night from 5-7pm, and Paton’s is from 5:30-7pm. Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse has these safety reminders for all trick-or-treaters, especially making sure that kids are seen at night.
“We can buy the little blinking lights to put on your trick-or-treater or reflective tape on their costume, something to reflect light back to that vehicle that may be approaching them. And then obviously practice safe street crossing. As a motorist, just pay extra special attention. The last thing I’d want for everyone to do would be to injure a child. Let’s all just be careful and have a great, great trick-or-treat.”
Clouse adds caution when looking through your candy and if there are pieces that have been unwrapped or don’t look quite right, to throw those pieces away because they may have been tampered with.
