The Guthrie Center Chamber of Commerce is trying something new this year, in conjunction with their trick-or-treat event. For those headed to the business district for the town’s annual trick-or-treat event, the Chamber will also be doing a canned food drive. A drop off box will be set up outside of City Hall.

Chamber Board President Shannon Neff-Muell says the increased need at the local food pantry starts to grow this time of the year, and they want to help get shelves stocked before the need for items gets even bigger. She says while canned goods are a big help, the food pantry also needs paper products, and sources of protein like peanut butter, tuna and canned beans. Neff-Muell adds cans of soup are also very helpful, as one can can be an entire meal.

The kids participating in the trick-or-treating can get their sweets, and have an opportunity to give to those in the community who may need it most. Trick-or-Treating in the business district takes place from 5-6pm on Halloween.
