Rooftop art on top of Peony

October is National Arts and Humanities Month where there is a focus on the fine arts and even in Jefferson, there’s lots of examples of outdoor public art.

Jefferson Matters: A Main Street and Chamber Community Tower View Team Chair Deb McGinn says they’ve been quite a bit of art displays on the downtown square. She points out the major projects of two alleyway renovations with Sally’s Alley on the south side of the square and Arch Alley on the north side, along with lots of rooftop art on the buildings downtown.

“It’s the biggest thing that we probably do to bring more people to the community. It’s getting very well known throughout the state that Jefferson is the place where rooftop art happens. In September, we had the Art on the Square, art festival, really well attended. I think we counted around 200 people showed up for that that day. It was beautiful weather.”

McGinn adds they have also done painted mini bell towers, yarn bombs with yarn wrapped around trees, painted public pianos and Ring Out for Art sculptures. McGinn invites everyone to the downtown square to check out the various public art pieces.
