The Iowa High School Athletic Association does not officially seed football playoff teams, and perhaps Greene County wishes it would. That’s because for the second straight season the Greene County Rams will host a highly rated opponent in the round of 16. In 2021, OABCIG (Ida Grove) topped the Rams to advance to the quarterfinals when Greene County was ranked third in 2A and the Falcons were ranked fifth. Tomorrow night, it’s West Lyon visiting the Rams at Linduska Field in Jefferson in the round of 16 and depending which poll is viewed, both teams are ranked sixth and seventh. The 2A Power Index has the Rams seventh and West Lyon eighth.
The winner likely meets undefeated Central Lyon/George-Little Rock in the quarterfinal round Nov. 4. CL/G-LR, rated first or second with the number one Power Index, hosts unranked Clarinda tomorrow night. Only one other pod has that many top 10 teams in it and those are numbers four, five, and eight.
The West Lyon at Greene County game can be heard Friday night on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage starting at 6:15 p.m. and kickoff at 7 o’clock.
