There’s one contested local race in Greene County for the November general election for Greene County Supervisor District 3.

Democrat Mike Holden is a Scranton resident and graduated from Scranton High School in 1976. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business finance from Creighton University in 1980. Following college, Holden returned to his family’s farm where he is currently raising grain and cattle. He has served on the Jefferson-Scranton School Board for 14 years and the Jefferson Area Chamber Board for four years. He currently serves on the Greene County Development Corporation Board, which he’s served for 15 years and is a Greene County Farm Bureau member.

With the proposed new county jail bond referendum for $12,685,000 that is on the ballot for county residents to vote on, Holden says he is for a new jail, because he doesn’t want to pay additional money to other counties to house inmates if the current jail is forced to close. However, he states he would rather have had a long-range plan for a new jail so that taxpayers wouldn’t have to pay as much money.

Other topics Holden wants to address if elected as a county supervisor is to develop a long-range facilities plan for the county, as well as economic development by retaining existing businesses, looking for ways to grow the economy with new businesses, and making Highway 30 for a four lane highway.

Holden talks about why he is running for Greene County Supervisor.

“I’m running for supervisor to help lead and grow Greene County in order to achieve our full potential. I want to help bring some new ideas and perspectives to the board that may not be explored otherwise. I will do it in a respectful and professional manner. I’m genuinely excited to see what kind of opportunities are out there for Greene County. I have shown and proven that I can make tough decisions in difficult situations. I will be still working hard and relentlessly for the future of Greene County.”

Holden is running against Republican candidate Dan Benitz. To hear more from Holden, click the link below for the recently aired Let’s Talk Greene County program.
