The Iowa High School Athletic Association released football playoff pairings Saturday morning for all seven classes and Greene County will host West Lyon (Inwood) on Friday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. in a Class 2A game in the round of 16. The Rams won its first playoff game last Friday over Union (La Porte City) 35-13 in Jefferson while West Lyon won 37-26 in Inwood over Estherville-Lincoln Central. Greene County is 8-1 and the Wildcats are 7-2 and both are ranked sixth or seventh depending on which 2A poll you look at. In the Power Rankings, the Rams are seventh and the Wildcats are eighth. WL was the 2A runner-up to champion Southeast Valley (Gowrie) in 2021’s 2A playoffs and they’ve captured five State Championships themselves between 1998 and 2019.

Inwood is 195 miles from Jefferson, so it’s a long bus ride for the Wildcats in what is believed to be the first football meeting between the two. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Linduska Field in Jefferson with coverage at 6:15 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
