The Greene County Development Corporation Board met this past Tuesday in regular session.

The meeting started with a brief update on Nueva Vida en Greene County with Carlos Arguello. He said they are continuing to follow up with five Latino business owners and entrepreneurs who were identified as highly interested following tours of available lots in Jefferson from this past August. He is also working with Scranton Manufacturing to advertise available jobs to the Latino community and will soon transition to American Athletic Incorporated and the Greene County Medical Center.

During reports, GCDC President Sid Jones talked about Kading Properties who is interested in building 3D homes and they looked at three potential sites in Jefferson. GCDC Director Ken Paxton said if they move forward, Kading mentioned wanting to get them on their schedule for next spring to begin construction.

Jefferson Building Official Chad Stevens mentioned that the new Greene County Animal Shelter would be open as early as the end of November. Greene County Medical Center CEO Chad Butterfield said Dr. Laurie Connolly is transitioning from a part time physician and part time chief medical officer to full time CMO next month. Greene County Schools Superintendent Brett Abbotts mentioned that the district has partnered with a local business to improve the district’s brand through marketing. He also said about 12 state legislators will be touring the career academy in November.

Paxton then gave an update on the federal grant that GCDC applied for additional funding for Nueva Vida en Greene County. He said the deadline for grant applications was moved to mid-October and no announcement has been made of the recipients yet.
