Bernard “Bernie” Edward Foley, age 87, of LeMars, IA, and formerly of Carroll, IA, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at his home in LeMars.

A public visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

A public graveside service will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion and may be left with the funeral home.

Bernard was born on July 8, 1935 in Manning, IA, and he was the son of Edward and Marcella “Sally” (Goetzinger) Foley.  Bernie, as he was known to most, grew up in Templeton and Carroll before enlisting in the United States Navy.  He served four years and was stationed in San Diego.  He was married to Connie Pacheco on July 21, 1956 at St. James Catholic Church in Perris, California.  The couple raised their two children in Perris and Bernie worked for the Riverside County Road Department.  He also owned a landscaping business, a concrete business, and was a hard worker.  Bernie moved back to LeMars to be near his family in 2021.  He was a 57 year member of the American Legion and held many offices on the local and national level. 

Bernie is survived by a daughter Debra Foley of Oregon; a son James Foley (Wendy) of LeMars; two grandchildren Courtney Lozoya (Michael) of Redlands, CA, and Aaron Foley of Oregon; several great-grandchildren; two brothers Kenneth Foley of Carroll and Malick Foley (Rosie) of Dallas, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Bernie was preceded in death by parents Edward and Sally Foley; his father and mother-in-law Alfred and Gregoria Pacheco; a brother Jack Foley (Irene); a sister Colleen Beidler (Bill); a sister-in-law Marilyn “Tots” Foley; and his wife Connie Foley in 2020.
