The Perry Police Department recently underwent some administrative changes.

Chief Eric Vaughn says Jim Archer was promoted to assistant chief, a position that’s been vacant for a few years. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio he couldn’t think of anyone better to have as assistant police chief.

“Jim is that guy that I’ve always been able to count on. He is the person that I rely on to supervise things when I’m not here. He’s handled scheduling, investigations, he’s kind of done it all here in our department, and it’s just a natural fit. People in town really like him, officers all like and respect him. So it’s a good fit for Jim to kind of move up the ladder a little bit.”

Vaughn points out the reason why he brought back the assistant chief position was because of stability his department has had without much turnover and with another administrative position, Vaughn talks about the broader scope he has in mind.

“Get some other things done that we need to get done within our department as far as guidance, and making sure things are getting done properly, and projects that we see need to be done in the community that are brought up to our attention are given our full attention, and we can give our full attention, and we can direct our patrol officers or our investigators to handle those tasks.”

Vaughn adds Archer has been in his previous position as patrol sergeant since the early 2000s.
