U.S. Congresswoman Cindy Axne
Congresswomen Cindy Axne is pushing a piece of legislation that would provide advance notice of changes to crop protection tools.
The “Farmers Deserve Notification Act,” was introduced by Representative Axne and Representative Jim Baird from Arkansas to give farmers adequate time to learn and adapt to new pesticide restrictions by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Axne explains this bill would prevent the EPA from canceling, suspending or enacting new restrictions on pesticides without providing 270 days or a nine month notice in the Federal Register.
“Because that’s the only way they can operate, if we strap them at the very last minute. What we’re literally doing is keeping our farmers from being able to get a good yield. And when we do that, we don’t just hurt Iowa farmers, which is my number one concern, but we hurt our food and fuel supply in this country.”
Axne noted that this piece of legislation is also in response to the skyrocketing cost of inputs and the supply chain issues going on throughout the nation. The bill is awaiting a vote in the House and to see more of the legislation visit here.
