A ribbon-cutting was held Monday afternoon to cap off an ongoing project in Jefferson since 2018.
City View Lofts at 200 East State Street unveiled its fully renovated three one-bedroom apartments above Warm Wishes and Gravitate Coworking. Chris Deal is part of the development group who undertook the project that started with renovating the main floor of the 1871 building and finished with the upper story apartments. He talked about the drive his development group had to bring back apartment living to the downtown square in Jefferson.
“There’s an awareness at a state level and probably even at a national level on the need for unique approaches to housing, especially in rural communities, to be one of the early projects and to show something of an example of what’s possible. When we started this several years ago we knew we wanted to do something that could show the possibilities. We wanted to do something that hopefully would create a playbook for others to follow because we know there’s such a need for housing and housing options in rural communities like Jefferson.”
The project received funding from a Community Development Block Grant from Iowa Economic Development Authority, along with the City of Jefferson, Greene County Development Corporation and others.
Following the ribbon-cutting was an open house for the public to see all of the apartments. Contact Deal at (913) 912-3325 or jeffcityviewproperties@gmail.
