A small group gathered at the Perry Perk Monday morning as a candidate for the US House made a campaign visit.
Iowa’s Third Congressional District Democratic incumbent Cindy Axne touted her vote for the Inflation Reduction Act, which she pointed out as one of the main solutions with that new law is capping insulin costs for those on Medicare at $35 per month. She mentioned that by reducing drug costs, that will help decrease the country’s overall deficit and can then invest that money in renewable energy.
Axne also pointed out that there is a four Democrat majority vote in the US House and she claimed that her race in Iowa’s Third Congressional District is one that is being targeted by the Republican Party.
“The Republicans need five members and they take over the House. We have a four vote majority and there’s four of us that sit in R(epublican)-plus seats (including) me, a woman in Pennsylvania, man in New Jersey and a man in Arizona, just the four of us, the only Democrats that sit in Republican seats. But when I tell you that they’re gunning for me, they’re gunning for me. This is a numbers game at this point.”
Other topics Axne talked about included helping to make funding available for telehealth and wanting more funding for broadband internet access, along with supporting the CHIPS and Science Act to make electronic chips locally in America, working to eliminate child care deserts across the country and wanting to codify the Women’s Health Protections Act.
Axne is running for reelection to the US House and Zach Nunn is challenging her as the Republican nominee.
