It’s harvest time in Iowa and farmers are busy in the fields, and wide, slow-moving farm equipment are on our rock roads and highways. 

Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante urges caution on area roadways. 

“Give them some space especially on bridges where they tend to take up the whole bridge. Don’t try to beat them through any intersections or anything like that, pass where it’s safe, make sure oncoming traffic sees you, you have a good line of sight, and just give them a nice wide berth.”

Infante advises to use caution when encountering farm equipment on the roadways.

“Some of the most alarming turn-offs are those left hand turns because we seem to pass on that side. I’ve seen many accidents where that’s the cause of it. Just give them a break, be real slow and cautious with them. It’ll only take you an extra minute or two and then you’ll be passed them and get back onto the speed limit.”            

Iowa is a farm state, and we should slow down, give our farmers a break, and appreciate that we are a part of it all.
