The Iowa High School Athletic Association released first round football playoff pairings for the four smallest classes in the state on Saturday. Greene County is the 2A District 8 champion and Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams will host Union (La Porte City) on Friday at Linduska Field in Jefferson. Union is the fourth place team from District 4, which is in northeast Iowa.
The Rams are ranked seventh in 2A and have a 7-1 record with a five game winning streak. The Knights are 2-6 and lost their first four games, then won two straight before losing their last two. The Power Ranking Index for the Rams is number five in 2A while it’s number 34 for the Knights. Each district champion is home vs. a fourth place team from another district in the first round, which has 32 qualifiers.
Friday’s game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with kickoff at 7 p,m. Greene County has won 12 of their last 13 games at Linduska Field dating back to the 2020 season.
