Greene County played Heart of Iowa Activities Conference volleyball at home last night while Paton-Churdan was on the road in non-conference action.

Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Rams hosted Saydel in the last HOIAC match of the season and the Rams came out on top in three sets by scores of 25-10, 25-18, 25-5. Greene County finished the conference schedule at 5-2, good for third place. Overall, the Rams are 15-8 and they’ll end the regular season tomorrow at the Winterset tournament having clinched a winning season for the second straight year.

The Rams and Eagles were tied 3-3 in set one before the Rams took control. Four Greene County service errors in set two helped Saydel stay somewhat close before the Rams pulled away. Set three saw the Rams score the first nine points of the set and they cruised to one of the more lopsided sets of the season. The match lasted just 56 minutes on Greene County’s Senior night. Natalie and Katrina Heupel, Ashlynn Hinners, Alexa Peters, and Bella Schroeder are seniors on the Greene County team.

P-C played at Eagle Grove on Thursday and Coach Makayla Sparr’s team was going for a second straight victory after dropping the first 17 matches of the season. The Rockets end the regular season in Mondamin at West Harrison High School for the Rolling Valley Activities Conference tournament.

The Rams and Rockets both open the postseason on Monday with Greene County at home vs. OABCIG (Ida Grove) at 7 p.m. in a Class 3A Region 2 quarterfinal in Jefferson. P-C plays number 6 Newell-Fonda in Newell in a 1A Region 3 first round match.
