It’s a busy time for Dallas County farmers and a meal on the go is certainly appreciated.
Members of Dallas County Farm Bureau were treated to a sack lunch meal from a program called Meals in the Fields, which was organized by Dallas County Farm Bureau. Local agent John Harada says it’s a simple way to thank the farmers for all that they do.
“It’s basically, we’re taking a sack lunch out to the farmers in the fields. Making sure that they know that we appreciate everything they do and everything they’re doing for agriculture and being members of the Farm Bureau.”
Harada along with agent Peter Shomeburg and a handful of Farm Bureau members helped put together roughly 250 sack lunches that were delivered directly to farmers that were in the fields.
“I think it begins with an email out to basically all of our farmers or phone calls, and basically saying, ‘Would you like us to bring you a meal out in the field?’And most of them we contact, contact us back and say, ‘Yes, we’d like to.’ Then we just figure out which day we do it, a couple of days during the month of October, and where we go, and kind of geographically it’s done by the day, and basically that’s how it works.”
All of the sack lunches were distributed Tuesday and Wednesday.
