The Greene County boys were second and the girls eighth at the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference Coed Cross-Country Meet on Monday east of State Center at the Lincoln Valley Golf Course. Nevada repeated as boys’ team champion with 26 points and the Cubs also won the girls’ crown with 44 points.

The boys from Greene County had 69 points with 94 from South Hamilton (Jewell), 103 by West Marshall (State Center), 123 by Perry, 155 for Roland-Story (Story City), 171 for Saydel (Des Moines) and 181 from PCM (Monroe).

On the girls’ side, R-S was the second place team with 59 points, then came PCM 88, WM 92, Perry 144, Saydel 146, SH 152, and Greene County 162.

Noah Hinote and Ethan Frederick earned All-Conference honors, which took a top eight place finish. Hinote was seventh in 19:02.84 covering the five kilometers (3.1 miles) and Frederick was eighth in 19:09.12. Gavyn Winters placed ninth in 19:17.56 followed by Kolby Angell, 15th in 20:01.44, and 33rd place Carter Hinote, who checked in at 21:18.26.

Olivia Shannon led Greene County’s girls in 16th at 24:01.95, followed by Autumn Stevens, 23rd in 25:10.71, Ava Minnehan, 38th in 27:00.16, Ava Jablonski, 41st in 27:34.72, and Leah McCormick, 59th in 30:57.12.

Coach Jeff Lamoureux saw his boys’ squad finish as the conference runner-up behind the Cubs for the second year in a row. He was pleased the girls had enough runners for a team score after having just two runners a season ago.
