The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During open forum, County Engineer Wade Weiss and Chris Durlam talked about a lighting demonstration with the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower that is happening this Thursday evening. A company will show the different color lights that could be used. Durlam noted a preliminary cost estimate to replace the ground lighting with a white light is $15,000 and the color lights, with all the required equipment, would be double that amount.

A public hearing was held on a new code of ordinances in order to re-codify the existing ordinances. Only one comment was made by a resident who urged the Supervisors to pass the ordinances as they were presented, specifically a new ordinance regarding utility-scale solar energy projects. Following the hearing, the Board approved the first reading of three required readings.

The majority of the meeting was spent on an update with Nueva Vida en Greene County. Greene County Development Corporation President Sid Jones and Executive Director Ken Paxton, along with Carlos Arguello with Latino IQ, and two business representatives made comments. The overall goals to attract and bring the Latino population to Greene County was to help hire the over 200 available jobs in the county, establish new businesses and create additional housing.

The Board also approved the county recorder’s quarterly report of fees for July through September of $91,857, the county auditor’s quarterly passport report for July through September of issuing 36 passports and the county treasurer’s quarterly investment report for July through September, ending with $11,280 of interest collected by the end of September. Additionally, they approved changing Greg Geisler to a maintenance II position with the secondary roads department and increasing his wage to $25.56 per hour.
