Another suspect from the ongoing investigation of a stolen ATM machine from Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson has been arrested.

According to court documents, 26-year-old Jacob Roop of Marshalltown was the passenger in the pickup truck that was used to steal an ATM machine from the casino on January 28th. Court documents show 39-year-old Jorge Palacios of California and 52-year-old Richard Harris of Marshalltown were also involved in the theft when the three suspects took the ATM out of a fire exit and loaded onto a truck and drove away.

The truck was later found abandoned in the 1800 block of Redwood Avenue when it ran out of gas. Palacios and Harris were found driving a different vehicle the next day in Boone County, along with another suspect, 42-year-old Steven Curvin of Story City. Curvin admitted to authorities that the stolen ATM machine was at his shop in Story City. The machine was later found at that location where it had been destroyed.

The criminal complaint shows that as Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams was transporting Palacios to the Carroll County Jail on January 30th, Palacios said he would take Williams to the ATM machine and the other two people that were involved if he was kept out of jail. On February 2nd, a special agent with the Division of Criminal Investigation with Wild Rose Casino obtained a search warrant for Harris’ phone. A text was recovered from Roop stating that the sheriff just picked him up. 

On January 28th, Williams was called to a broken down truck on Redwood Avenue where Roop was and Williams took Roop to Sparky’s in Jefferson to get gas. Court documents show that at the time, Williams was unaware of the ATM theft involving the truck. Roop was later identified as the passenger from the incident. 

Roop was arrested Wednesday and charged with a Class C Felony for first degree theft and two Class D Felonies for second degree theft and first degree criminal mischief. He was booked into the Greene County Jail. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
