In high school volleyball at Nevada on Thursday, Greene County visited Nevada in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The host school, ranked number 10 in Class 3A by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Association, needed just 56 minutes to dispose of the Rams in straight sets, 15-25, 18-25, 18-25. The Cubs are 20-11 and 6-0 in the HOIAC and they won the conference title while the Rams fell to 15-8 overall and 4-2 in the league.
Set one saw the Rams lead 5-2 before a service error. The Cubs scored the next six points to take the lead and then after the next Ram service error and another run, Greene County trailed 7-15. The Rams got to within 15-20 before the Cubs scored the last five points of the set. Greene County led set two 17-16, but a Nevada run of eight straight points put them in firm control. The third and final set saw the home team build an 11 point lead at 18-7 and they cruised to the win in straight sets.
Coach Makayla Sparr’s Rockets were in Coon Rapids for Rolling Valley Activities Conference play to face Coon Rapids-Bayard and the Rockets lost in three sets by scores of 21-25, 14-25, 18-25. P-C is now 0-14 overall and 0-7 on the season. Becca Anderson and Paige Teeples had eight digs apiece. The Rockets were held to just six successful attack kills.
