Samantha Hardaway leading welding class
A new program is currently underway with Greene County ISU Extension and the Greene County Career Academy.
Career Exploration Camps started culinary last month where students in grades 1st-8th got hands-on experience of making food, which Greene County 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says was very successful.
“Culinary went so well, I couldn’t be happier as a way to kick-off our Career Exploration Camps. Both of the camps were full with wait lists and I was just so surprised to see people signing up.”This month is focused on welding, with the younger kids in 1st-3rd grade already taking their class at the Career Academy. Twelve students learned about different kinds of welds and practiced some of those skills using frosting to simulate welding.
Hardaway says there’s still time to sign up for the older class for 4th-8th graders next week.
“We get into 4th-8th (grades) we are going to get them on to welding and they will get to make something to bring home. So we’re really excited for the opportunity for the kids and thankful for the help through the Greene County Career Academy.”
That class will take place Monday, October 17th from 4-5:30pm at the Career Academy, with a $10 registration fee which includes an after-school snack. Contact the Extension Office in Jefferson at 515-386-2138 to sign up.
