Greene County welcomed seven other high school volleyball teams to the high school gym in Jefferson on Saturday for the Ram Invitational. Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s team went 2-2 in matches and 6-4 in sets and is now 14-7 overall on the season.

In Pool play, the Rams met Boone, Carroll High, and Pella Christian The day started with two narrow set wins vs. Boone, 22-20, 21-19. Then it was two wins over Carroll 21-13, 21-10. The final match in the pool had the Rams lose in three sets 21-18, 16-21, 10-15 vs. the Eagles.

The Rams were second in their pool and qualified for the semifinals to take on Stanton, the winner of the other pool. It went three again with the Rams coming up short 17-21, 23-21, and 13-15. Set two saw the Rams trail 15-16, then lead 19-16, before trailing 20-21. Serving for set and match point, the ViQueens served the ball into the net to tie it at 21-21, and the Rams went on to win by two. Set three had the Rams up 9-7, then was down 9-10 before going up 11-10. Stanton went up 14-11 and won by two.

Greene County is home Tuesday in Jefferson vs. Perry in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play.
