The National Weather Service issued a frost advisory for all of the Raccoon Valley Radio area overnight.

Weatherology Meteorologist Michael Karow explains the difference between a frost advisory and a freeze warning.

“We typically get those frost advisories issued once we get to temperatures down to around that 34 degree mark. Then we see those freeze warnings anytime we get those night time temperatures down closer to that 30 degree marker, even into the upper 20s. So yeah, that 34 degree mark is usually more critical temperature for those frost conditions.”

Karow describes what we could be in for as far as overnight temperatures for the rest of this week.

“So I think we’ll have one more night for Central Iowa at least in the upper 30s for Wednesday night. But beyond that, looking at 40s (are) more common for those overnight lows Thursday night into Friday night. By the time we get to your Friday (we’re) talking 70s for afternoon highs, could even approach the mid 70s into your weekend.”

Karow adds this was the first time this season there has been a frost advisory issued.
