After two football games in a row at home in Jefferson, the Greene County High School football team was supposed to be on the road September 30 in Red Oak, followed by an Oct. 7 date in Shenandoah. Coach Caden Duncan’s team is 4-1 on the season and they’ll be at 4-1 Red Oak this Friday, but an announcement from Greene County Activities Director Dave Wright on Tuesday morning announced that the Mustangs have cancelled the rest of their varsity football season for 2022. The Rams will win that game by forfeit, but they’d rather play. Wright said he’d like to schedule an opponent for Oct. 7, but the odds are against it because everyone else is already playing that night. The Mustangs lost to Clarke (Osceola) last Friday 94-0.
This Friday’s game in Red Oak can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage at 6:20 p.m. and kickoff at 7 o’clock. The Tigers shut their first four opponents out before losing last week at Des Moines Christian 19-13. The Rams won 30-22 over DMC the week prior. The five teams the Tigers have played have a combined record of 5-20 while the five Greene County opponents are 14-12 combined.
