Panora Food Pantry is facing many challenges stemming from inflation but they are starting to prepare for the holiday season where the need rises.
Pantry Director Trevor Nunn says that they have compared the first two quarter numbers at the pantry of 2021 to the first two quarters of 2022. Nunn explains they had roughly 55 visitors in 2021 with an average cost per visit was $43 and now in 2022 they had 120 visits for an average cost per visit of $70. He states with these numbers increasing my create issues with the holidays approaching.
“I would say there’s always concern that if we continue to see the numbers increasing like we’ve seen in this past year, plus cost. You know, the big concern comes and we have enough funds to continue to run the pantry and the manner that we do.”
Nunn did mention that the people of Guthrie County have stepped up and noticed the need for a food pantry.
“Well, there is concern, I would say, that people have definitely recognized, you know, the rising need as well as the rising costs. And I guess, to be honest with you, out of the goodness of their hearts, they’re just coming forward and, you know, doing a great job and contributing and aiding in the need that we have here in Guthrie County.”
Nunn says they need food that include canned food items, boxed items, fruits and vegetables and toiletry items. He also adds financial donations allow them to get fresh produce and meats. Nunn adds that if someone wants to donate a financial donation or food donation contact the Faith Bible Church in Panora during their hours of operation, Monday through Friday from 8am until 5pm.
